TDTU Public Lectures Program on “Research on Corporate Governance and Sustainability in Emerging Economies, the Implications for Vietnam”
On July 3, 2025, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) hosted the Public Lectures Program titled “Research on Corporate Governance and Sustainability in Emerging Economies, the Implications for Vietnam.” The speakers were two leading experts in the field of Accounting and Finance: Professor Nguyen Huy Tam from Nottingham Trent University (UK) and Professor Teeven Soobaroyen from Aston University (UK).
Attending the program were Dr. Vo Hoang Duy, Vice President of TDTU; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Duc Hien, Head of the Department for Management of Science and Technology Development (DEMASTED); representatives of several units; along with lecturers, researchers, staff, and students from different Faculties across the University.
In the context of global efforts toward sustainable development, emerging economies, inherently characterized by underdeveloped markets, unique socio-political settings, and diverse governance mechanisms, require research approaches tailored to their realities. During the program, the two speakers analyzed the relationship between corporate governance and sustainable development in the context of emerging economies, thereby offering research implications and practical policy recommendations for Vietnam.
In Vietnam, following the government’s strong commitment at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) and its determination to pursue the development of a low-carbon economy, the imperative to promote ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices has become increasingly urgent for enterprises. However, ESG implementation in reality still faces various challenges, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), family-owned enterprises, and state-owned enterprises. In response to this situation, the speakers highlighted promising research directions such as the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize ESG practices, governance structure innovation, the enhancement of corporate social responsibility, and the development of governance theories aligned with the Vietnamese context and characteristics.
The topic of this program contributed to opening new research directions in governance and sustainable development in the region as well as action strategies and supportive policies aimed at strengthening sustainable governance capacity in Vietnamese enterprises.
The TDTU Public Lectures Program is a series of signature activities aimed at connecting experts, scientists, leaders, and enterprises with the University’s lecturers and students. It serves to provide valuable knowledge and information to lecturers, staff, and students, thereby contributing to the enhancement of the University’s prestige and influence.
