Ton Duc Thang University Participates in the 2nd International Competition on Research, Design, and Fabrication of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
On June 16, 2025, the 2nd International Competition on Research, Design, and Fabrication of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles took place at the Technical University of Ostrava (Czech Republic).
Following the success of the first competition held at Ton Duc Thang University in 2024, this year's event brought together teams from 3 Vietnamese universities (including Ton Duc Thang University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, and Vietnam Aviation Academy) and universities in the Czech Republic that have close cooperation in the field of unmanned aircraft technology.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Vaclav Snasel – Rector of the Technical University of Ostrava – affirmed that the application of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or drones) in industry today and in the near future will become an inevitable trend, in the current context, UAVs are modern technology widely applied in many fields. The competition has practical significance both in theory and practice for this field. He highly appreciated the success of the first competition held at Ton Duc Thang University, and affirmed that this year's competition and the following competitions will contribute practically to improving the professional qualifications of participating universities in the field of UAVs, while creating a strong motivation for students and trainees to actively pursue this potential field. This year’s competition focuses on the theme: automatically programming an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to perform the task of dropping objects – specifically tennis balls – onto fixed targets on the ground (including 5 circles of different sizes and colors), then controlling the UAV to return safely to the starting point. Each team will have three rounds to perform the mission. The team with the highest total score after three rounds will win.
Participating in this competition, the Ton Duc Thang University team – consisting of 5 students from the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the Faculty of Information Technology, along with an instructor – will defend the championship title won in the first season. In addition to the competition, the leaders of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (TDTU) and the Faculty of Electrical and Informatics (Technical University of Ostrava) will also discuss bilateral cooperation, including the establishment of a joint research group in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and the joint organization of the AETA 2025 International Conference (Recent Advances in Electrical Engineering and Related Sciences: Theory and Application).
